Frequently asked questions

If your question isn't here, call 0330 133 5394 — you'll get a person.

Getting started

How quickly can you start collecting?

Usually within a week of you saying yes, and often within two or three working days if you're on an existing round. We'll confirm the date in writing before we deliver the bin.

Do I need to give notice to my current waste provider?

Almost certainly, yes — most commercial waste contracts require 30 to 90 days' written notice, and some auto-renew if you miss the window. Send us your current contract and we'll tell you when your notice period opens. We won't ask you to pay twice.

What if I'm not sure what size bin I need?

Start one size down from what you think. If it's overflowing after two weeks we'll swap it, free. Paying for empty space is the most common way small businesses overspend on waste.

Do you cover my area?

We collect across south and mid Bedfordshire: Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Leighton Buzzard, Linslade, Toddington, Harlington, Barton-le-Clay, Ampthill, Flitwick, Woburn and Bedford. That's LU1–LU7, MK17 and MK40–MK45.

We're extending outward into Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire as the rounds fill. If you're just outside and you're interested, tell us — enquiries are how we decide where the next round goes, and we'll be straight with you about when we could realistically start.

Pricing and contracts

Am I tied into a long contract?

No. Rolling monthly agreement, 30 days' notice either way, no exit fee. We collect the bin when you leave.

Are there any extra charges?

No fuel surcharge, no environmental levy, no admin fee, no bin hire. The only things that would change your bill are: you ask for extra collections, you ask for a bigger bin, or a load is rejected for contamination (we'd talk to you first, and we'd tell you what went wrong).

How long is the price held?

12 months from your start date. Any change after that is notified at least 30 days in advance, in writing.

Is VAT included in your prices?

No — all prices shown on this site exclude VAT, which is standard for commercial waste services. VAT is added at the prevailing rate on your invoice.

Will this actually save me money overall?

Often, but we won't promise it blindly. Food waste is heavy and takes up a lot of general-bin volume. Once it's separated, most businesses can drop to a smaller general waste bin or a less frequent collection, and that reduction usually more than covers the food waste service. If your numbers don't work out that way, we'll tell you.

Using the service

What can go in the food waste bin?

Yes: all raw and cooked food, meat, bones, fish, dairy, eggs and shells, bread and pastry, rice and pasta, fruit, vegetables and peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags, plate scrapings, out-of-date stock.

No: any packaging, black bin bags, cutlery or crockery, foil, liquid cooking oil, cigarette ends, chemicals, glass, cans, coffee cups.

Do I need special liners?

Compostable liners only — never ordinary plastic bags, which contaminate the load. We supply your first roll free and can keep you stocked at cost.

Will the bin smell or attract pests?

Sealed lids, a weekly collection and a lined caddy handle it in almost every case. If you're in a hot kitchen or a tight yard, go twice-weekly in summer — it costs less than most people expect and solves the problem entirely.

What happens if you miss a collection?

Call us and we'll come back. If the miss was ours, the next collection is free. If we genuinely couldn't get to the bin — blocked access, gate locked — we'll tell you what happened and arrange a return.

Can I change my collection frequency later?

Yes, up or down, at any time, with no penalty. Seasonal businesses do this every year and we build the schedule around it.

The law

Do I legally have to separate my food waste?

In England, under the Simpler Recycling rules: workplaces with 10 or more full-time-equivalent employees have been required to separate food waste since 31 March 2025. Workplaces with fewer than 10 FTE must do so from 31 March 2027. See the GOV.UK guidance for the full detail.

What is Duty of Care and does it apply to me?

Yes, it applies to every business that produces waste. You must make sure your waste is handled by a licensed carrier and can show documentation of where it went, kept for at least two years. We issue Waste Transfer Notes automatically for every collection.

What happens if I don't comply?

Enforcement sits with the Environment Agency, which can issue compliance notices and, for persistent breaches, financial penalties. In practice the bigger day-to-day risk for a small business is a landlord, a franchisor or a tender process asking for evidence you can't produce.

Are you a licensed waste carrier?

We're in the process of registering with the Environment Agency. Our licence number will be published here and on every Waste Transfer Note as soon as it's issued — ask us for the current status if you need it sooner.

Ready for a price?

Tell us your business type and how much food waste you produce. We'll come back the same working day with a fixed monthly price — no contract, no bin hire charge.
